Online paths to EdTech certification

Whilst schools remain closed, in the traditional sense at least, many teachers are taking the opportunity to further develop their skills and engage in the vast array of online training programmes available. So if you're interested in EdTech, what's out there for you? In this post, we're going to look at the offerings of the big 3; Apple, Google and Microsoft. We'll summarise each of the programmes, focusing on what they offer, what you'll get out of them and your paths of progression.
Summary - A comprehensive learning platform that focuses on the use of iPad and Mac in the classroom, as well as key Apple apps including Pages, Keynote, Numbers, iMovie and Garageband. Additional badges can be earned which features tips for introducing coding to the classroom, using the Swift programing language.
Format - Resources are provided to guide you through each section within a path. You then complete a quiz to earn a badge. Once you have earned all of the badges for either iPad or Mac, you will earn recognition as an Apple Teacher.
Relevance - A must for anybody regularly using Apple technology regularly with their classes. Whether you have class sets or are 1:1, this will provide all of the essential skills you need to get the most out of the devices you have available.

Summary - Features a range of training materials focusing on the use of G Suite for education tools, devices and tips on integrating these technologies effectively into classroom-based scenarios. There are two paths available Fundamentals and Advanced training. After completing the training paths, you can gain certification by completing an exam.
Format - Training paths feature a sequence of letters which include reading materials, videos and tasks. Once you have completed the training, you can attempt the exam to gain certification. Each exam features a combination of multiple-choice questions and practical tasks.
Relevance - This is ideal for anybody using G Suite for education tools both in the classroom and administratively. If you wish to complete the certification exam, you will need to be confident in the use of the full range of G Suite for education tools.
Cost - Training paths are free to complete. The Google Certified Educator Level 1 exam costs $10(USD), whilst the Level 2 exam costs $25(USD).
Next steps - After completing both the Google Certified Educator Level 1 and Level 2 exams, you can go on to complete a Google Certified Trainer exam or apply to be a Google Certified Innovator.
Summary - Contains a wide range of training paths, meaning you can tailor your experience to suit the tools and technology you use on a daily basis. There are an array of courses available covering different topics.
Format - Each course allows you to work through the materials at your own pace and features a quiz to demonstrate what you have learnt. Courses vary in length and difficulty. Completing a course will earn you points. Once you have earned 1,000 points, you will be a Certified Microsoft Innovative Educator.
Relevance - Whether you're using Word and PowerPoint to create learning materials, or OneNote and Teams as a digital workflow solution, you're likely to find courses that meet your needs and expand your skillset.
